Apple iPad - Activate / Set Up Device

Here's how to quickly set up your iPad.
  • Accounts (e.g., Gmail, email, etc.) can be set up after activating the device (see Related Info section at the bottom of this page).
  • To prevent issues with activating or establishing a data connection:
    • If there is a current device connected to the Verizon network on this mobile number, verify that the old device is powered off prior to activating the new device.
    • If completing on-device activation using Wi-Fi, an active network must be available. If a Wi-Fi network is using a firewall, activations may fail.
  • For Apple iPad Pro (2021) and newer:
    • This device will ship without a physical SIM card.
If a physical SIM card is preferred, ensure a 5G SIM card is inserted after the eSIM profile is activated.
    • Do not swap a SIM card from a previous 4G iPad model as it can result in activation issues.
    • The Apple iPad Pro 2021 and newer models only use one active SIM profile at a time and are not Dual SIM Dual Standby compatible at this time.
  • If troubleshooting, don't restore the device until all testing has been completed.
  • For Prepaid accounts, activate your Apple® iPad® online. For more info on Prepaid plans and service, view our Prepaid FAQs.
  • If your Apple iPad Pro (2021) or newer was purchased outside of Verizon follow the steps to add a cellular plan with an eSIM.
