Apple iPhone - Create and Send a Text Message

Here's how to create and send a text message on your iPhone.
  • The following steps below apply to when an iMessage® is sent from your Apple® iPhone®. iMessages require a data or Wi-Fi connection.
  • When a message is sent, the message type (e.g., iMessage, SMS, etc.) is indicated by differing colors.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and configuration should be handled by Apple.
  1. From a Home screen, tap the
    Messages icon
     Messages icon.
    If an app isn't available on your Home screen, swipe left to access the App Library.
  2. Tap the
    Compose Message icon
     Compose text icon (upper-right).
  3. Enter the phone number in the To field.
    To send a message to an existing contact, tap the plus symbol then select the contact.
  4. Enter the message then tap the
    Send icon
     Messages icon.
