One Talk T41S/SW, T42S, T42U, T46S/SW IP Desk Phones - View / Reply to a Text Message (SMS)

Here's how to view and/or reply to text messages on your T41S/SW, T42S, T42U, or T46S/SW desk phone.
  • Text messaging is disabled by default and doesn't appear in the Message screen unless enabled.
  • Text messaging can only be enabled on One Talk lines that don't have a smartphone as a primary device.
  • If two desk phones are configured on the same line, messages are delivered to only one of the desk phones. It's recommended to enable the text messaging feature on only one desk phone per line.
  • If a line is being shared by a desk phone and other endpoints (e.g., Mobile App, Desktop app), all endpoints receive incoming messages. However, messages sent from a desk phone won't appear as outgoing messages on the other endpoints.
  • Desk phones only support SMS; MMS isn't supported. If a picture/video message is sent to a desk phone line, any media in the message is removed and only the accompanying text displays.
  • Desk phones can store up to 50 text messages across all folders. When the phone reaches 50 messages, the user is notified that the mailbox is full and messages should be deleted. If the user does nothing, when a new message is received the oldest message is deleted automatically.
  • Maximum character count per message is 500 for T41S/SW and T42S, and 918 for T46S/SW models. When the maximum character count is reached, any additional text is truncated.
  • Images reflect T46S/SW desk phone models. T41S/SW and T42S models use a similar menu structure.
  1. Do one of the following:
    • To view a new message immediately as it's received, tap the
      View soft key
       at the notification prompt.

    • To view messages from the main menu:
      1. From the Home screen, press the
        Menu soft key

      2. Highlight
        Message
         then press the
        Enter soft key
        .
        Select Message
      3. Highlight
        Text Message
         then press the
        Enter soft key
        .
        If 'Text Message' doesn't appear, the feature must be enabled.

      4. Highlight
        Inbox
         then press the
        Enter soft key
        .
      5. From the Inbox, highlight the desired message then press the
        View soft key
        .
        Select a message
  2. To reply to the message, press the
    Reply soft key
    .
    Messages can also be deleted from this screen or from the Inbox using the
    Delete soft key
    .

  3. Enter the message text then press the
    Send soft key

  4. Enter the destination address in the 'To' field then press the
    Send soft key
    .
    Enter destination number
  5. View the confirmation message.
    Displays when the message is sent successfully.
