Samsung Galaxy J3 V / J3 (2016) - Manage Mobile / Wi-Fi Hotspot Settings

Here's how to configure Mobile / Wi-Fi Hotspot settings (e.g., password, network name, etc.) on your Samsung Galax.

Configure mobile hotspot

  1. From a Home screen, navigate:
    Apps Apps icon
    Settings Settings icon
    Mobile Hotspot and Tethering
    .
    These instructions apply to Standard mode only.
  2. Tap
    Mobile Hotspot
    .
  3. Tap the
    Menu icon Menu icon
    (located in the upper right):
    For prepaid device, tap
    More
    .
  4. Tap
    Configure mobile hotspot
    .
    To configure settings, mobile hotspot must be turned on.
  5. From the Configure mobile hotspot screen, configure the following as needed:
    • Network name (SSID)
    • Hide my device
      Enabled when a checkmark is present.
    • Security
      • None
      • WPA2 PSK
    • Password
      Password can be changed.
    • Show password
      Enabled when a checkmark is present.
    • Tap
      Show advanced options
       to configure the following:
      • Broadcast Channel (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz)
      • Tap the 'Auto'
        dropdown menu Drop down icon
        to select the number of hot spot users (1-8).
  6. Tap
    SAVE

Allowed Devices

  1. From a Home screen, navigate:

    Mobile Hotspot

  3. Tap the
    Menu icon Menu icon
    (located in the upper right):
    For prepaid device, tap
    More
    .
  4. Tap
    Allowed devices
    .
    Restricts which devices are allowed to connect.
  5. To set allowed devices, tap
    Add
     (upper-right).
    1. Enter the Device name and MAC address then tap
      ADD
      .
    2. Repeat steps as necessary. When finished, tap the
      Back icon Back icon
      (lower-left).

Timeout

  1. From a Home screen, navigate:

    Mobile Hotspot and Tethering

  2. Tap
    Mobile Hotspot

  3. Tap the
    Menu icon Menu icon
    (located in the upper right):
    For prepaid device, tap
    More
    .
  4. Tap
    Timeout settings
    .
    Sets how long before the hot spot will turn off after no activity.
  5. Select an option:
    • Never timeout
    • 5 min
    • 10 min
    • 20 min
    • 30min
    • 60 min
  6. Tap the
    Back icon Back icon
    (lower-left).
