Google Pixel 8 / 8 Pro - Enable / Disable / Modify Screen Lock

Here's how to set up, change or disable the screen lock option (e.g., password, pattern, etc.) for your Pixel 8 / 8 Pro.
  • If using Microsoft® Exchange / Corporate sync, some screen lock options may be unavailable.
  • These steps can also be utilized to change the current screen lock setting on your Pixel 8 / 8 Pro.

Pattern

An unlock pattern is created to access the device.
  1. From a Home screen, swipe up to display all apps.
  2. Navigate:
    Settings Settings icon
    Security & privacy
    Screen lock
    .
    If prompted to add a Google™ account, do one of the following:
    • Tap
      Add Google account now
       to set up an account.
      Refer to Add an Existing Google Account for assistance.
    • Tap
      Continue
       to proceed without setting up an account.
      If presented, enter the current PIN, password or pattern.
  3. Tap
    Pattern
    .
  4. Draw an unlock pattern (connecting at least 4 dots) then tap
    Next
    .
  5. Draw the same pattern again then tap
    Confirm
    .
  6. If prompted, tap one of the following then tap
    OK

    • Show all notifications
    • Hide sensitive notification content
    • Hide all notifications

PIN

A PIN is created to access the device.
  1. From a Home screen, swipe up to display all apps.
  2. Navigate:
    Settings Settings icon
    Security & privacy
    Screen lock

    If prompted to add a Google™ account, do one of the following:
    • Tap
      Add Google account now
       to set up an account.
      Refer to Add an Existing Google Account for assistance.
    • Tap
      Continue
       to proceed without setting up an account.
      If presented, enter the current PIN, password or pattern.
  3. Tap
    PIN

  4. Enter a numeric PIN (4 to 16 digits) then tap
    Next

  5. Re-enter the numeric PIN then tap
    Confirm

  6. If prompted, tap one of the following then tap
    OK

Password

A password is created to access the device.
  1. From a Home screen, swipe up to display all apps.
  2. Navigate:

  4. Enter a password (4 to 16 characters) then tap

Disable Screen Lock

  1. From a Home screen, swipe up to display all apps.
  2. Navigate:
    Settings Settings icon
    Security & privacy
    Screen lock

    If prompted to add a Google™ account, do one of the following:
    • Tap
      Add Google account now
       to set up an account.
      Refer to Add an Existing Google Account for assistance.
    • Tap
      Continue
       to proceed without setting up an account.
      If presented, enter the current PIN, password or pattern.
  3. Tap 'None' or 'Swipe'.
  4. To confirm, tap
