Here's how to set up a facial recognition scan to access your Galaxy Tab S8+ 5G.
  • Facial recognition is utilized to unlock the device.
  • For optimal performance, ensure you are indoors or away from direct sunlight.
  • If synced to a corporate exchange account, the availability of this option is dependent upon the policies of your IT admin.
  1. From a Home screen, swipe up from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
  2. Navigate:
    Settings Settings icon
    Security and privacy
    .
  3. Tap
    Biometrics
    .
  4. Tap
    Face recognition
    .
    If presented, enter the current PIN, password or pattern.
  5. Perform one of the following:
    • For first time setup:
      1. If presented, select a lock screen option (e.g., pattern, PIN or password) then follow the steps to complete the process.
        If necessary, refer to Enable / Disable / Modify Screen Lock for assistance.
      2. Review the 'Face recognition' message then tap
        Continue
        .
      3. If presented, review the instructions then tap
        Continue
        .
      4. While holding the phone 8-20 inches away, position your face within the circle displayed on-screen.
      5. If prompted, remove your glasses than tap
        Continue
        .
      6. From the 'Face recognition' menu, tap any of the switches to turn on Switch on or off Switch off:
        • Face unlock
          When on, device unlocks with a recognized face.
        • Stay on Lock screen until swipe
          Once unlocked, remain on the lock screen until you swipe.
        • Require open eyes
          When on, facial recognition will not work when your eyes are closed.
        • Brighten screen
          Temporarily increases screen brightness to improve facial recognition in the dark.
    • To add another recognized face:
      1. Tap
        Add alternative appearance to enhance recognition
        .
      2. While holding the phone 8-20 inches away, position your face within the square displayed on-screen.
    • To remove face data:
      1. From the 'Face recognition' menu, tap
        Remove face data
        .
      2. To confirm, review the disclaimer then tap
        Remove
        .
