Pixel 6 / 6 Pro - Set Up Fingerprint Recognition

Here's how to set up fingerprint recognition on your Pixel 6 / 6 Pro.
  • A fingerprint is utilized to unlock the device.
  • For the fingerprint scanner to operate, hands must be clean and free of moisture, dirt, oil, lotion, dyes, etc.
  • Up to 5 fingerprints can be registered on the device.
  • Ensure a secure lock type (PIN, pattern, etc.) has been set up before following the steps below. Turning off the secure lock also turns off fingerprint unlock.
  1. From a Home screen, swipe up to display all apps.
  2. Navigate:
    Settings Settings icon
    Security & privacy
    Device unlock
    .
  3. Tap
    Face & Fingerprint Unlock
    .
  4. Enter the current PIN, password, or pattern.
  5. Tap
    Fingerprint Unlock
    .
  6. Review the message then tap
    I agree
    .
    May require scrolling.
  7. To continue tap
    Start
    .
  8. Using on-screen prompts as a guide, lightly tap the
    fingerprint sensor
     on the screen of your device multiple times to scan your fingerprint.
  9. Tap
    Done
    .
    To add additional fingerprints, tap
    Add another
     then return to step 8.
