Here's how to ensure your Gmail, contacts, apps, etc. are backed up on your moto g stylus.
If you need to back up data (e.g., app data, SMS text messages, device settings, etc.) on your moto g stylus using your Google™ (Gmail™ account, follow these step-by-step instructions.
Backups can't be restored from a higher Android™ version onto a phone with a lower Android version.
  1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access all apps.
  2. Navigate:
    Settings Settings icon
    System
    Advanced
    .
  3. Tap
    Backup
    .
  4. Tap the
    Back up to Google Drive switch
     to turn on Switch on or off Switch off.
    If disabled, existing backups are deleted from Google's servers.
  5. From the Account field, ensure you list the appropriate account (email address).
    You must enable 'Back up to Google Drive' to view account.
    To change accounts:
    1. Tap
      Account
      .
    2. Tap the preferred account.
      Tap
      Add account
       to add an existing Google account.
    3. Review the 'Back up to Google Drive' message then tap
      OK
      .
    4. If prompted to change other backup accounts (e.g., photos & videos account, etc.), review the message then tap 'Dismiss' or 'Change'.
When a Google account is added to your phone, previous backups are restored. This can be done by signing in to the same Google account while setting up your new or reset phone.
