Samsung Galaxy S9 / S9+ - Set Up Face Recognition

Here's how to set up a facial recognition scan to access your Galaxy S9 / S9+.
  • Facial recognition is utilized to unlock the device.
  • For optimal performance, ensure you are indoors or away from direct sunlight.
  • If synced to a corporate exchange account, the availability of this option is dependent upon the policies of your IT admin.
  1. From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
    These instructions only apply to Standard mode and the default Home screen layout.
  2. Navigate:
    Settings Settings icon
    Biometrics and security
    .
  3. Tap
    Face Recognition
    .
    If presented, enter the current PIN, password, or pattern.
  4. Perform one of the following:
    • For first time setup:
      1. If presented, select a lock screen option (e.g., Pattern, PIN or Password) then follow the steps to complete the process.
        If necessary, refer to Set Up Screen Lock for assistance.
      2. Tap
        Continue

      3. From the 'Are you wearing glasses right now' screen, select 'yes' or 'no' then tap
        Continue
        .
      4. While holding the phone 8-20 inches away, position your face within the circle displayed on-screen.
      5. Tap the
        Stay on Lock screen switch
         to turn on Switch on icon or off Switch off icon then tap
        Done
        .
      6. From the
        Face recognition
         menu, tap the
        switch
         to turn each option on or off:
        • Face unlock
          Turn facial recognition on or off without removing face data.
        • Faster recognition
          When off, greater security is provided making it harder to unlock your phone using an image or video.
        • Require open eyes
          Only recognize your face when your eyes are open.
        • Brighten screen
          Temporarily increases screen brightness to improve facial recognition in the dark.
    • To remove face data:
      1. From the Face recognition menu, tap
        Remove face data
        .
      2. To confirm, review the disclaimer then tap
        Remove
