Here's how to set up, change or disable the screen lock option (e.g., password, pattern, etc.) for your Galaxy S8 / S8+.
  • If using Microsoft® Exchange / Corporate sync, some screen lock options (e.g. Face unlock, Pattern, PIN) may be unavailable.
  • These steps can also be utilized to change your current screen lock setting.

Pattern

An unlock pattern is created then utilized to unlock the device.
  1. From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
    These instructions only apply to Standard mode and the default Home screen layout.
  2. Navigate:
    Settings Settings icon
    Lock screen
    Screen lock type
    .
    If presented, enter the current PIN, password, or pattern.
  3. Draw an unlock pattern (connecting at least 4 dots) then tap
    Continue
    .
  4. Re-draw the pattern then tap
    Confirm
    .
  5. From Notifications, tap to turn notifications on Switch on or off Switch off , select one of the following:
    • Hide content
    • Notification icons only

PIN

A PIN is created then utilized to unlock the device.
  1. From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
    These instructions only apply to Standard mode and the default Home screen layout.
  2. Navigate:
    Settings Settings icon
    Lock screen
    Screen lock type
    If presented, enter the current PIN, password, or pattern.
  3. Enter a numeric PIN (4 to 16 digits) then tap
    Continue
    .
  4. Re-enter the numeric PIN then tap
    OK
    .
  5. From Notifications, tap to turn notifications on Switch on or off Switch off , select one of the following:
    • Hide content
    • Notification icons only

Password

A password is created then utilized to unlock the device.
  1. From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
    These instructions only apply to Standard mode and the default Home screen layout.
  2. Navigate:
    Settings Settings icon
    Lock screen
    Screen lock type
    If presented, enter the current PIN, password, or pattern.
  3. Enter a password (4 to 16 characters) then tap
    CONTINUE
    .
  4. Re-enter the password then tap
    OK
    .
  5. From Notifications, tap to turn notifications on Switch on or off Switch off , select one of the following:
    • Hide content
    • Notification icons only

Disable Screen Lock

  1. From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
    These instructions only apply to Standard mode and the default Home screen layout.
  2. Navigate:
    Settings Settings icon
    Lock screen
    Screen lock type
    If presented, enter the current PIN, password, or pattern.
  3. Tap 'None' or 'Swipe'.
  4. If promoted, review the info about biometric data (Face, Iris, Fingerprints) then tap
    Remove data

  5. To confirm, tap
    Remove
