Samsung Galaxy S8 / S8+ - Manage Mobile / Wi-Fi Hotspot Settings

Here's how to configure Mobile/Hotspot Settings (e.g., password, allowed devices, etc.) for your Galaxy S8 / S8+.

Allowed Devices

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
    These instructions apply to Standard mode and the default Home screen layout.
  2. Navigate:
    Settings Settings icon
    Connections Connections icon
    Mobile Hotspot and Tethering
    .
  3. Tap
    Mobile Hotspot
    .
  4. Tap the
    Menu icon
     Menu icon (upper-right) then tap
    Allowed Devices
    .
  5. Tap
    Allowed devices only
     to turn on Switch on icon or off Switch off icon.
    When on, only devices added to the list can connect.
  6. Perform any of the following:
    • To add a device:
      1. Tap
        Add
        .
      2. Enter the Device name and MAC address then tap
        Add
        .
      3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 as necessary. When finished, tap the
        Back icon
         Back icon (lower-right)
    • To remove a device:
      1. Tap
        Delete
        .
      2. Select the device(s).
        Device is marked for deletion when checked.
        To select all devices, tap All (upper-left).
      3. Tap
        Delete

Configure Mobile Hotspot

    Switch on icon to access settings.
  4. Tap the
    Menu icon
     Menu icon (upper-right) then tap
    Configure mobile hotspot
    .
  5. Configure any of the following:
    • Network name (SSID)
    • Hide my phone
      On when a checkmark is present.
    • Security
      This option can be Open or WPA2 PSK.
    • Password
    • Power saving mode
      This option reduces battery usage, adjusting to data traffic.
      On when a checkmark is present.
  6. Tap
    Save

Timeout Settings

    Mobile Hotspot

    Timeout settings
    .
    Sets how long before the mobile hotspot will turn off after no activity.
  5. Select an option (e.g., Never time out, 5 minutes, etc.).
