Gmail for Android - Compose and Send a Message

Here's how to compose and send a Gmail message from your Android device.
Ensure your Google apps are up to date as the following steps apply to the most recent version of the Gmail™ app on your Android™ device.
  1. From a Home screen, navigate:
    Apps icon
    (Google)
    Gmail Gmail icon
    .
    If not available, swipe up from the center of the display then tap
    Gmail
    .
  2. Ensure the appropriate email address is selected:
    1. Tap the
      Switch account icon
       Switch account icon (upper-right).
    2. Tap the appropriate email address.
  3. From an Inbox, tap the
    Compose icon
     Gmail Compose icon (lower-right).
  4. From the To field, enter the recipient's email address.
    As the recipient's email address is entered, a list of matching contacts may appear and can be selected at any time.
  5. From the Subject field, enter a subject.
  6. From the Compose email field, enter a message
    To add an attachment:
    1. Tap the
      Attach icon
       Attach icon (at the top).
    2. Tap 'Attach file' or 'Insert from Drive'.
    3. Navigate to then tap the appropriate attachment.
  7. Tap the
    Send icon
     Send icon (upper-right).
