Apple iPad - Turn Private Browsing On / Off

Here's how to turn your iPad's private browsing feature on or off.
Private Browsing allows you to search the web without creating a search history and prevents some websites from tracking your search patterns.

iOS 15 and later

  1. From a Home screen on your Apple® iPad®, tap
    Safari
     Safari icon.
  2. Tap the
    Bookmarks icon
     Bookmarks icon (upper-left).
  3. Do one of the following:
    • To turn on Private Browsing, tap
      Private
      .
    • To turn off Private Browsing, tap the
      Tabs icon
       Tabs icon.
  4. If necessary, tap the
    Bookmarks icon
     to hide 'Bookmarks sidebar'.

iOS 14.8 and older

  1. From a Home screen on your Apple® iPad®, tap
    Safari
     Safari icon.
  2. Tap the
    Pages icon
     Pages icon (upper-right).
  3. Tap
    Private
     to turn on or off.
    Private is highlighted in white when on.
